Trent Dougherty

As a career-long advocate for a cleaner, greener, and a more just Ohio, Trent has worn a lot of hats. For 17 years at the Ohio Environmental Council family of organizations he was a environmental/energy/natural resources/democracy/elections lawyer and lobbyist; policy analyst; media spokesperson; litigator, legal educator and director of the Ohio Environmental Law Center.

Now, after joining as partner at Hubay Dougherty in 2021, Trent gets to play the role of outside General Counsel & problem solver for progressive nonprofits all over the state so they can succeed at their mission. I help nonprofit leaders with tax, human resources and labor, and elections law, and continue to wear the hat of policy analyst and energy and environmental attorney.

Trent is able to be a thought-partner with non-profit Executive Directors because Ihe too is an Executive Director. In 2022 Trent joined the Midwest’s leading water quality research institute, Midwest Biodiversity Institute (MBI) as its new ED.
